Kohima/IBNS: Nagaland is contemplating the development of a "new modern planned city" within the state, according to an announcement made by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Tuesday.

The Urban Development Department has meticulously crafted a comprehensive proposal, which has been submitted to the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, reports Morung Express.

The objective of this proposal is to facilitate the creation of an innovative city within Chathe Valley.

Chief Minister Rio shared this information during his address at the 77th Independence Day celebration held at Nagaland Civil Secretariat Plaza in Kohima on August 15.

Situated in Chathe Valley, specifically within the bounds of the Chümoukedima district, the envisioned city will cover an expansive area of approximately 39 square kilometers.

Chief Minister Rio highlighted the careful selection of this location, taking into account its favorable geographical coordinates, climatic conditions, and excellent connectivity through National Highways and Railways.

The necessary groundwork has been diligently undertaken, including obtaining the required NOCs (No Objection Certificates) from all relevant stakeholders associated with the designated land. Chief Minister Rio emphasized the meticulous completion of procedural formalities in this regard.

Remarkably, various investment entities have already expressed keen interest in collaborating with the State Government to realize the vision of this burgeoning township.

The State Government's proposal is currently awaiting evaluation by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. Chief Minister Rio expressed optimism about the timely and affirmative consideration of this proposal, underlining its profound significance.
