Naga peace talks: Meeting with NSCN-IM inconclusive, alert in Nagaland
Guwahati/IBNS: The crucial meeting 'Naga peace talks' to end the deadlock the between the NSCN-IM and the centre which was held in New Delhi on Thursday was inconclusive.
A top government official said that, the centre has again rejected the NSCN-IM’s demand of separate flag and separate constitution.
A 15-member delegation team of the Naga outfit led by its General Secretary Th. Muivah attended the crucial meeting in New Delhi in presence of Nagaland governor and the Centre appointed interlocutor RN Ravi and other top officials of the Union Home Ministry.
During the three hours long meeting, the NSCN-IM team again raised their separate flag and separate constitution demand, but the Centre rejected it again.
The top government official further said that, another meeting with the NSCN-IM will be held on Oct 28.
On the other hand, a meeting between the centre and the Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) will be held on Friday.
On Oct 18, the Nagaland governor and peace interlocutor RN Ravi met the representatives of 14 tribal bodies, two church bodies of Nagaland in Kohima and took their views over the final settlement of Naga peace process.
On Aug 17, Nagaland governor RN Ravi said that, the centre wants to conclude the Naga peace process within three months.
Attending a grand civic reception in honour of the 19th Governor of Nagaland held at NBCC Convention Centre in Kohima, RN Ravi said that, before his appointment, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed the need to conclude the peace process within three months time.
“That is a long enough time because we have been talking and negotiating for the last 22 years. In the last five years we have taken spontaneous steps by including all the stake holders, both sides trying their best, and there is no reason why we cannot conclude it,” RN Ravi said.
It is to be mentioned that, on Oct 23, the Council of Nagalim Churches, held fasting and prayers for the positive outcomes of the talks.
On the other hand, the Nagaland police on Thursday directed the unit commandants of Nagaland Armed Police (NAP) Indian Reserve Battalion (IRBn) to keep at least two months stock of rations in view of the “fluid” situation in the state.
Meanwhile, security measures in Nagaland have been tightened and the security forces, state police and other security agencies are on high alert.
The state government cancelled leave of all police personnel fearing about law and order situation in the state.
