Meghalaya governor faces public wrath for boycott-Kashmir call
Guwahati, Feb 21 (IBNS): Meghalaya governor Tathagata Roy, in a tweet to boycott ‘everything Kashmiri’ is drawing fervid reactions from public to political parties including BJP.
The Meghalaya governor’s response came at a time when the entire country was mourns and protesting against Pulwama terror attack in which 40 personnel of the Central Reserve Police Forces (CRPF) were killed.
Reacting to Roy’s comment, Assam BJP MLA Mrinal Saikia said Kashmir is a part of India and the Kashmiris were part of the Indian population.
“What is happening in Kashmir, actually responsibility goes to Pakistan. Under instigation, help of Pakistan, the terrorism is running in Kashmir. So should blame Pakistan, boycott Pakistan. But, we should not boycott Kashmir,” Mrinal Saikia, BJP MLA of Assam’s Khumtai Assembly constituency said.
On the other hand, All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) MLA Nizamuddin Choudhury said the Meghalaya governor’s statement was not acceptable.
“Kashmir is not outside of India. Kashmir is an integral part of India. Terrorists have no religion. All terrorists should have to be killed. We can’t blame all Kashmiris for it. The statement from a governor is not acceptable,” the AIUDF MLA said.
Earlier, former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah had replied to the Roy's tweet: "These are the bigots driving Kashmir over the abyss. While you are at it Tathagata why don’t you stop using our rivers to generate your electricity as well?

Reactions are also coming from the general people of Assam over the Meghalaya governor’s appeal to boycott Kashmiri.
Rinku Sarma, a Guwahati-based homemaker said it was an unwelcome statement coming from the Meghalaya governor.
“The whole people of Kashmir are not responsible for what was happened in Pulwama. We can’t blame the entire people of Kashmir for it,” Rinku Sarma said.
On the other hand, 35-year-old youth Mridul Haloi said: "It is very unfortunate for the country at this moment that a constitutional head of a state has made such type of statement."
“The entire country should be together at this moment. At a time when the people of the country are in mourning following the terror attack, such statements will make the situation even worse. All the people of Kashmir are not responsible for the Pulwama incident. I think it is an immature statement,” Haloi said.
