Mayawati asks Centre to take up Nepal issue seriously

Lucknow/UNI: Asking both the Centre and the State governments to be more cautious on 'unlock 1.0' due to rise in the number of Coronavirus cases in the country, Bahujan Samaj Party chief, Mayawati on Monday showed her concern over Nepal.

She appealed the national Democratic Alliance (NDA) government to immediately take up the issue.

Nepal had prepared a new map in which they show Kalapani and 3790 kilometers of India territory as their area which had put India in trouble,' tweeted Mayawati on Sunday asking the Centre to immediately take up the issue with the neighbouring country so the map will be rectified.

In a new development that is likely to worsen the row between India and Nepal over the disputed areas, the latter has officially issued a new map that shows Lipulekh, Kalapani, and Limpiyadhura under its territory.

The map was released by the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives & Poverty Alleviation.

The development comes a day after Nepalese Prime Minister KP Oli declared in the Parliament that the Kalapani area belonged 'indisputably' to Nepal and his government will wrest control of it.

He had said that a map would be released and people of Nepal will celebrate it.

Both India and Nepal claim Kalapani as an integral part of their territory.

Meanwhile Mayawati also cautioned the government over rising coronavirus infection cases in the country.

"Amidst rising cases of Covid-19 and increasing deaths, the government on 69th day of lockdown had given several relaxations which will continue till June 30," pointed former UP chief minister in another tweet claiming that since the people now face more threat of getting infected so the responsibility of both Central and State government further increases to protect the virus from spreading.

She appealed to take necessary steps in this regard.
