Massive jam forms in Delhi-Gurgaon road as Haryana govt seals border

New Delhi/IBNS: The road connecting Delhi and Gurugram was blocked on Friday morning as massive traffic jam formed after Haryana government closed its border with Delhi over concerns of rising coronavirus cases, said reports.

The move comes after Haryana’s home minister Anil Vij had on Thursday demanded control over the free movement of the people from Delhi to Haryana and attributed the rise in coronavirus cases in the state to it.

A large number of people gathered across the Delhi-Gurgaon border and policemen were seen checking the identity cards and passes of the people before allowing them entry, said reports.

A Hindustan Times report said that people who do not have the e-movement passes or do not fall under the approved category of essential service providers will not be allowed to travel to Haryana from Delhi as per the guidelines of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), according to a senior official of the Haryana government.

“Following relaxations in lockdown 4.0, the to and fro movement of people from Delhi to Haryana had increased. There is a possibility that the authorities in the NCR districts have lowered their guard and are allowing unhindered access,’’ an official, who did not wish to be named, had said on Thursday, the HT report said.

The state government had given a written undertaking to the Delhi High Court on May 14 that it would allow movement from Delhi to Haryana only if a commuter produces e-passes. These passes were to be issued to essential service providers, including medical practitioners.

The Haryana government had decided to allow the movement of medical professionals on showing e passes since 56 per cent of the cases in National Capital Region (NCR) district of Gurugram, Faridabad, Jhajjar and Sonepat had links with Delhi.
