Maharashtra elections: 24 women nominees win this year; marginal rise since '14 polls
Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Oct 27 (UNI) The count of women legislators, getting elected in the 2019 assembly polls, marginally went up by two head-counts as compared to the 2014 polls.
In previous polls, a total of 22 women MLAs made their presence felt in the state assembly whereas this year, 24 women contenders have emerged victorious in the poll arena.
The rise in the number of women MLAs was inversely proportional to 33 per cent reservation granted to them.
According to data, a total of 3,237 persons fought the 2019 polls,among which 235 candidates were females.
Among these 235 contenders, 17 were from the BJP, 14 from the Congress, Shiv Sena and NCP gave tickets to eight each and the rest poll nominees were a mix from smaller parties and independents.
The BJP topped with its 12 women candidates winning, Congress tally was five whereas from the NCP three and from the Shiv Sena two females got elected, including two independents.
Out of these 24 elected women, half of them have been elected first time.
