Kolkata nurse crisis: 169 more private-hospital nurses resign, leave West Bengal
Kolkata/IBNS: Escalating the ongoing nurse crisis in privately run hospitals in Kolkata, 169 more staff nurses of multiple renowned private healthcare facilities in the city and its adjacent areas on Saturday quit their jobs and have started journey to their respective hometowns in different states, report said.
According to reports, after these 169 staff nurses from other states, including 92 from Manipur, 43 from Tripura, 32 from Odisha and two from Jharkhand, resigned from their duties, the total number of private-hospital nurses left West Bengal in last two days has reached 354.
Earlier on Friday, 185 staff-nurses from several private hospitals in Kolkata and its adjoining areas resigned from their jobs and left the state for their hometowns in Manipur.
Reacting to the development, director of a private hospital-chain in Kolkata said, "After 354 staff-nurses left the state in two consecutive days, private healthcare facilities in Kolkata and its adjacent areas are in front of a big trouble, at a time when we all are fighting Covid-19 pandemic together."
"Central and state governments should immediately look into the matter and take adequate action as soon as possible, otherwise we are going to face a massive healthcare crisis in next few days as the number of nurses from this state is not adequate in respect to the demands," he added.
