Chennai, Feb 21 (IBNS): At a gala gathering, actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan launched his political party in Madurai on Wednesday.

Haasan has announced his party's name as "Makkal Needhi Maiam".

The launch happened in the presence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Speaking at the launch, Haasan said he is no more a film star but a "lamp at your house".

Haasan had earlier said his mission is to challenge the status quo that has been plaguing the politics of Tamil Nadu for some time now.

"However, for this to happen, my thoughts and actions need to collectively resonate with the people," he had said.

Apart from Haasan, another Indian actor rooted in Tamil Nadu, Rajinikanth, is set to float his party ahead of the next Tamil Nadu Assembly election.
