JNU protest: Students clash with police; several detained
New Delhi/IBNS: A massive clash broke out between Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students and police as the students were trying to break the barricades to continue with their protest march against hostel fee-hike to reach the parliament here on Monday.
Stopping the protesters, police, who have denied permission to the agitation, detained several Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) members including president Aishe Ghosh.
The students have been protesting for several days now with their demand to roll back the service charges of Rs. 1,700 and the hike of one-time refundable mess security fee from Rs. 5,500 to Rs. 12,000.
Though the JNU administration has partially rolled back the fee hike for Below Poverty Line (BPL) students who do not avail scholarship, the students, who dubbed the move as an "eye-wash", are not satisfied.
