Jignesh Mewani, Hardik Patel call Rupani's exit BJP's cover up for 'mismanagement'
New Delhi/IBNS: Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mewani has said Chief Minister Vijay Rupani should have quit for his monumental mismanagement of Covid crisis while state Congress chief Hardik Patel called his exit an attempt to hide complete failure in running the government.
"People of Gujarat would have appreciated had Mr. Rupani resigned for his monumental mismanagement of Covid crisis," Mevani posted on Twitter.
"This resignation comes purely to take care of electoral arithmetic keeping 2022 assembly polls in mind," the MLA suggested.

This resignation comes purely to

"With the resignation of Chief Minister Vijay Rupani in Gujarat, it is now clear that the BJP has proved to be a complete failure in running the government in Gujarat. Due to lack of oxygen during Covid crisis, the image of Gujarat has been tarnished all over the world by the horrific pictures coming from the state's crematoriums," Gujarat Congress chief Hardik Patel said in a statement today, according to NDTV.
"The people of the state are troubled by ever-increasing inflation, crisis faced by traders, rising unemployment, shutting down of industries. For how long would the Gujarat government, running from Delhi's remote control, hide its failure?" Patel said.
"In Gujarat, for the first time since 2014, a situation has emerged that needed the change of Chief Minister... But the real change will come after the elections next year, when the people will uproot the BJP from power," he said
Rupani resigned after BJP leadership expressed dissatisfaction with his performance, according to sources, reported NDTV.
According to the report, this change was a part of course correction by the BJP which swiftly changes things whenever it is unhappy with its state leadership.
Karnataka, Uttarakhand are the recent examples where the BJP changed its Chief Ministers. In July, Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa stepped down in July while Tirath Singh Rawat, the chief minister of Uttarakhand quit barely four months after replacing Trivendra Rawat in Uttarakhand.
Rupani, 65, was sworn in for a second term in December 2017 in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and more than a dozen other BJP Chief Ministers.
The NDTV report said that Mansukh Mandaviya, who was recently sworn in as the Union Health Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel are possible replacements.
Assembly polls are scheduled to take place in the state in the later part of the next year.
