Srinagar/UNI: Three militants were killed and a jawan was injured in an encounter which ensued after security forces launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in south Kashmir district of Pulwama on Saturday.

Official sources said that following specific information about presence of militants, a joint CASO was launched by Special Operations Group (SOG) of J&K police, Army and CRPF at Zadoora in Pulwama late last night.

However, they said when security forces were moving towards a particular area, militants hiding there, fired at them with automatic weapons. "The security forces retaliated ensuing in an encounter," they said.

They said three militants were killed in the encounter, adding a jawan was also injured. "The injured was rushed to a hospital where his health condition is stated to be stable," they further added.

They said incriminating materials, including arms and ammunition, were recovered from the encounter site, adding the operation was still going on when the reports last came in.
