Jammu and Kashmir: Operation continues to retrieve body of minor from river in Sopore

Baramulla/UNI: A massive search operation continued to retrieve body of a minor who jumped into river Jehlum to end his life in Sopore in this north Kashmir on Wednesday evening, official sources said.

Twelve-year-old Shahid Nazir jumped into the river at Ahadbab crossing in apple township of Sopore after informing his parents on Wednesday evening.

However, people present in the area immediately jumped into the river but could not save the minor.

Later, his family besides police and SDRF personnel joined the rescue operation which was stopped due to darkness.

However, Thursday morning rescue operation was again resumed to retrieve the body of the minor. It was not immediately clear why the minor took this extreme step. The operation was suspended last night and resumed again this morning.

However, so far the body could not be retrieved, they said adding the operation was going on when the reports last came in.

Police have registered a case and initiated investigation.
