Srinagar/UNI: Security forces averted a major tragedy after they defused a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by militants in the south Kashmir district of Pulwama on Friday.

Official sources said a Road Opening Party (ROP) during a routine patrolling noticed an IED planted by militants on the roadside at Dadsar Tral in Pulwama early this morning.

The road was closed and Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was summoned, they said adding the IED was defused without causing any damage.

Traffic has also been restored on the road, they said adding had the IED not been detected and defused it would have caused much damage to life and property.
