India's new anti-hijacking law prescribes capital punishment in the event of death of any person
The law, which has come into force from the day of notification, prescribes death penalty for any hijacker who causes loss of life in an aircraft or on the ground, media reported.
The new law mandates the central government to confer powers of investigation, arrest and prosecution on any officer of the central government or National Investigation Agency (NIA), according to reports.
The 2016 Anti-Hijacking Act replaces the 1982 law.
