Indian PM Narendra Modi wishes Muslim community on Ramzan

New Delhi/IBNS: Indian PM Narendra Modi extended Ramadan greetings to the Muslim community on Saturday.

Modi also wished that humanity achieves victory over COVID-19 and hence create a healthier planet in the upcoming days.

"Ramzan Mubarak! I pray for everyone’s safety, well-being and prosperity. May this Holy Month bring with it abundance of kindness, harmony and compassion. May we achieve a decisive victory in the ongoing battle against COVID-19 and create a healthier planet," he tweeted.

Amid fear and battle against COVID-19, the Muslim community across the globe is observing the holy month of Ramadan from Saturday.

The holy month is being observed by maintaining the social distancing norms this year which is necessary to fight against Coronavirus.

Ramadan is a month-long observation, where the observers will fast from a period of dawn-to-dusk and follow it up with prayers.

The average fasting continues for 12 hours, but it gets a tad difficult in places where day light remains for prolonged hours, thus fasting can stretch up 17 hours.

Ramadan is determined by the sightings of a new moon.

Though the customary rule abstains people from eating and during during the fasting hours, the same doesn't apply for children, the sick, the elderly, a to be mother, women observing their periods and travellers.
