The Indian Army eliminated two terrorists during an encounter along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district, a day after terrorists opened fire on tourists in popular Pahalgam holiday destination killing at least 28.

The Army said a large quantity of weapons, ammunition and other war-like stores have been recovered from the terrorists.

"Heavy exchange of fire between security forces and terrorists, two terrorists have been eliminated, infiltration bid foiled by the security forces in the ongoing Operation. Large quantity of weapons, ammunition and other war-like stores have been recovered from the terrorists," Chnar Coprs wrote on X.

The army said two to three unidentified terrorists attempted to infiltrate through the general area of Sarjeevan at Uri Nala, Baramulla, when troops intercepted and challenged them, resulting in a gunfight.

The Army said the operation is still going on.

"On 23 Apr 2025, approximately 2-3 UI terrorists tried to infiltrate through general area Sarjeevan at Uri Nala, Baramulla, the alert tps on LC challenged and intercepted them, resulting in a firefight," Chinar Corps posted on X.

Pahalgam terror attack

In one of the worst terror strikes that targeted tourists in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam amid the ongoing visit of US Vice-President JD Vance to India, gunmen killed at least 28 people and wounded many others after identifying them as non-Muslims on Tuesday, triggering a nationwide outrage and condemnation from all quarters.

Gunshots were heard in the upper meadows of Pahalgam's Baisaran Valley around 2:30 PM, which is accessible only on foot or on horseback.

The terrorists were apparently in camouflage, and it is believed to be a targeted attack.

The attackers reportedly asked about the religious identities of the victims before opening fire on them.

The terrorists reportedly opened fire on the tourists when they were horse riding in the area.

Pahalgam attracts a large number of tourists every year.

Modi returns

Indian PM Narendra Modi has cut short his Saudi Arabia visit and returned to New Delhi on Wednesday.

He convened a high-level meeting with National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar after returning to New Delhi.

Home Minister Amit Shah is in Kashmir to take stock of the situation.
