India, Afghanistan discuss ways to deepen strategic ties

Tashkent, Nov 2 (UNI) India and Afghanistan on Saturday discussed ways to deepen strategic ties.

On the sidelines of Council of Heads of Government (CHG) of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting here, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Chief Executive of Afghanistan Abdullah Abdullah held bilateral talks in an effort to take relations between both the nations to a new height.

“Excellent meeting with the Chief Executive of Afghanistan, Dr Abdullah Abdullah on the sidelines of the SCO meeting in Tashkent. We talked about a wide range of issues, particularly how to deepen the strategic ties as well as people-to-people cooperation between our nations,” the defence minister office said in a tweet.

Currently, Mr Singh is holding defence bilateral talks with his Uzbekistanian counterpart Major General Kurbanov Bakhodir Nizamovich.

“RM Shri @rajnathsingh attending the bilateral meeting with Uzbekistan’s Defence Minister, Major General Kurbanov Bakhodir Nizamovich in Tashkent. India and Uzbekistan are looking forward to further strengthen defence cooperation between both the countries,” the minister office tweeted.

Singh is on a three-day trip to Uzbekistan to participate in the 18th meeting of CHG of SCO nations.
