Incessant rain due to depression in Arabian Sea continues to lash north Karnataka
Belagavi/UNI: Rain under the influence of depression in Arabian sea continued to lash parts of North Karnataka throwing normal life out of gear and in many affected districts with educational institutes being shut down for the day.
Incessant rain since last Saturday has affected celebration of 'Kittur Utsava' as the organisers were forced to cancel many events at historic town Kittur last night.
Though there was little respite, rain has continued to pour since morning throwing normal life out of gear.
Water is flowing above danger level in Krishna, Malaprabha, Ghataprabha, Vedganga and Dudganga rivers and people are living under fear as discharge from Naviluthirtha and Savadatti Dam has been increased due to increase in inflow.
District Administration has taken all precautionary measures like keeping the rescue forces at standby mode and opening Rehabilitation Centers to house the affected people.
According to a report from Udupi, Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesh declared holiday to the Educational Institutions as rain continued to lash the Coastal District.
Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh has also declared holiday to all schools and PU Colleges in the District.
Coastal Karnatak and parts of Kerala will witness heavy rainfall till Saturday evening, according to Meteorological Department due to variance in air-pressure in the Arabian Sea.
The administration has warned fishermen from venturing into sea for fishing and general public were asked not to go near water bodies.
Meanwhile, some relief from the nonstop downpour was reported in Mysuru, Mandya, Kodagu and Chamarajanagara districts since morning.
