'Hindus being tricked in marriage': Metro man E Sreedharan on 'love jihad' ahead of joining in BJP

Thiruvananthapuram/IBNS: E Sreedharan, who is popularly known as the "Metro Man" of India, said he was opposed to "love jihad" as he had witnessed how Hindu girls were tricked in marriage in Kerala.

Sreedharan made the comment ahead of his joining in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which has enacted controversial laws in various states against conversion for marriage.

"Love Jihad, yes, I see what is happening in Kerala. How Hindus are being tricked in a marriage and how they suffer... not only Hindus, Muslim, the Christian girls are being tricked in a marriage. Now that sort of thing I certainly will oppose," he told NDTV.

The legendary engineer behind India's ambitious and expansive metro rail project in Delhi will join the saffron party during the BJP’s 'Vijaya Yathra' being organised from February 21.

BJP is likely to field him in the upcoming assembly elections in Kerala and Sreedharan has said he is open to contest the polls if the party wants.

"I have been living in Kerala for the past 10 years. I have seen both the UDF and the LDF rule. I feel that these rules have not brought any tangible progress to the state. Lot of things are possible in terms of industrialisation and employment opportunities for people. Not even one industry in the state in the last 20 years,” he had said.

He also referred to the "Double Engine" theory of BJP which stresses on same governments in the Centre and the state for better growth.

The BJP is aiming to keep its footprint in Kerala politics, which is heavily dominated by the Left and Congress, in the 2021 state polls.
