'He is against Punjab': Man stops Ajay Devgn's car in Mumbai

Mumbai/IBNS: Ajay Devgn's car was stopped in Mumbai for around 15 minutes on Tuesday by a man who was apparently upset with the actor's tweet last month backing the Centre over the farmers' issues after international pop icon Rihanna tweeted in support of them.

"He is against Punjab," the man could be heard saying in a viral video clip, pointing at the actor, who was seen sitting uncomfortably in the front passenger seat of his BMW car.

The incident has occurred outside Film City, Goregaon, on the outskirts of Mumbai.

The clip shows the man heckling Devgn while the actor sits with folded hand.

In the video, another man, who appears to be the actor's security staff, tried to reason with the man but he refused to budge.

"This guy is against Punjab. Punjab has given him food. How is he able to digest his food? How can you be against Punjab? You should be ashamed. You have been wearing turbans in movies with so much pride? Why aren't you ashamed? Are you going to run me over? Why can't he come out of the car and talk?" the man could be heard saying the video.

A case has been registered over the incident.

Thousands of farmers, mostly from Punjab and Haryana, are camped at the Delhi borders since Nov 26, 2020, protesting against the agricultural reform which they fear would leave them at the mercy of big corporate houses.

The deadlock between the Centre and the farmers over the agriculture laws took a different direction when Rihanna last month tweeted extending support to protesting farmers in India triggered a row.

While Rihanna's tweet received support from several international celebrities like Jay Sean, Greta Thunberg, Mia Khalifa, Amanda Cerny, Lilly Singh and others, she had to face backlash from top Indian celebrities including actors and cricketers.

Several Indian cricketers and Bollywood personalities, including the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn among others took to Twitter to stand in solidarity with the country and favoured the resolution of the ongoing government-farmer standoff without any foreign interference as they tweeted with the hashtag #IndiaTogether and #IndiaAgainstPropanganda.

Ajay Devgn wrote: "Don’t fall for any false propaganda against India or Indian policies. Its important to stand united at this hour w/o any infighting Folded hands #IndiaTogether #IndiaAgainstPropaganda."
