Goa: Gambling den raided, 10 held

Panaji, Oct 27 (UNI) Crime Branch in Goa on Sunday raided a gambling den active near Martyrs Memorial at Patradevi in Pernem in North Goa and arrested ten people in connection with the crime besides seizing Rs 2,13,000.

According to police, a reliable information was received about card gambling activity being conducted at Patradevi for the last some days.


Intelligence was developed and a team was formed consisting of PI Jivba Dalvi, PSI Marlon DSouza and Head constable Umesh Dessai, Umesh Fadte and constables Vinayak Sawant, Vijay Naik, Brijesh Naik, Andrew Dsouza, Sunil Naik, Utkarsh Dessai, Venkata Prasad and Shamba Shetgaonkar.


The gambling den was raided early morning during which the organiser Sharad Bala Arolkar (32), resident of Pernem, and other accused namely Soma Dattaram Raul (39), Vinayak Parshuram Paradkar (44), Kishore Vasudev Samant (32), Pankaj Ramchandra Parab (28), all from Sindhudurg, Sakharam Govind Shetye (39) and Sanjay Narayan Gawas (37), both from Dodamarg, Manguesh Raghunath Sawant (35), and Shabbir Mohammad Khan (51), both from Sawantwadi, were placed under arrested.


A total cash of Rs 2,13,000 along with other gambling articles were seized and an offence under section 11(2)(a) GPG Act was registered.

Further investigation was in progress, police added.
