Give us one chance, we will build 'Sonar Bangla' in five years: Amit Shah in Bengal

Addressing a press conference on Friday evening before concluding his visit, Amit Shah said that the Trinamool Congress-led government has been unable to meet the expectations of the people of Bengal and the promises it made turned out to be "fake."

"The TMC govt and CM of West Bengal have not been able to live up to expectations in the last 10 years. The promises have not been fulfilled and the hope has been transformed into anger against the ruling party," Shah said.

Making a strong pitch ahead of the state elections next year, Shah appealed to the voters of the state to give his party a chance to form government in Bengal and bring in development.

He said during his visit to several places in Bengal, he could sense "massive anger" among the people.

"Wherever I have gone, I have seen people full of anger towards Mamata Banerjee and her party. More than for welcoming us, people raised slogans like "Bharat Mata ki Jai" in anger against the state government," said Shah.

In a direct appeal to the voters, the Union Home Minister said, "You have given chances to Congress, TMC, and the Left, give one chance to BJP, we promise to build 'shonar Bangla (golden Bengal) in five years. Our focus is clear-to develop Bengal."

"We will stop ghuspeti (inflitration) in Bengal, secure borders. People of Bengal has to choose between parivarvaad (dynastic politics) and vikasvaad (development)."

Amit Shah, who is in Bengal primarily to boost the BJP workers here ahead of the polls next year, also accused the Mamata Banerjee government of institutionalising corruption in the state.

"Mamata Banerjee has politicised administration, made politics a criminal affair and institutionalised corruption skillfully. There's hardly any other state where these three things have happened simultaneously," he alleged.

"I want to ask Mamata Ji why she hasn't sent crimes records of West Bengal since 2018 to the National Crime Records Bureau? What are you trying to hide and why? The people want to know about the law and order situation in the state," said the Union Home Minister.

He said there are three laws in Bengal-"one for nephew (implying Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek Banerjee), one for vote banks and the other for the people of Bengal."

"It's time for us to smile since we will form a government in Bengal after May 2021 with more than 200 seats. This is the will of the people of Bengal," said Shah.
