New Delhi: Indian PM Narendra Modi on Monday thanked European Union Commission for supporting and assisting India's fight against COVID-19.

Modi thanked the international body while interacting with its president
Ursula von der Leyen.

Modi tweeted: "Spoke to President of the EU Commission @vonderleyen and thanked EU for support and assistance to India’s COVID response. We discussed India-EU Leaders’ Meeting on 8 May. I am confident that the Meeting will provide a new momentum to our Strategic Partnership."

India is witnessing the deadly second wave of COVID-19.

India, a country of 1.3 billion people, reported over 3.68 lakh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours.

With 3,68,147 new cases, the overall tally of infections has touched 1,99,25,604.

In the same period of time, 3,417 new deaths apparently related to the virus have been reported.

The toll nationwide has further surged to 218,959.

Most of the new deaths have been reported from Maharashtra (700), Delhi (400) and Uttar Pradesh (300).

Several states like Punjab, Odisha and Goa have imposed lockdown to curb the spread of the deadly virus.
