Economic inequality is increasing in society, alleges Congress

''The government's policy is not to take everyone along and some people are benefiting from its decisions. Economic inequality is increasing in the society and the government is not ready to accept it," Congress Member of Parliament Dr. Amar Singh addressed during a discussion on The Finance Bill, 2021 and added that the biggest flaw of the present government is that it does not accept the truth and tries to cover every weakness with a veil of untruth.

Further, Dr. Singh said that there is a downward trend in the economy.

''The country's economic situation was already very bad before the Corona pandemic and it has suffered much during the Corona period, but the surprise is that the government never accepted that the country's economic condition was not good,'' he pointed out.

The parliamentarian accused the government of imposing a huge excise duty on oil to compensate for losses generated due to the reduced income tax revenue.

"This has led to a surge in inflation, so the government should immediately withdraw this hike in excise duty," Dr. Singh stressed.

He said Rs 1.5 lakh crores of revenue comes from PSU's, but the speed at which the government is privatising, "these undertakings will directly result in a loss of 1.5 lakh crores to the country".

Later, the Congress member added, that before starting the process of privatisation of PSU's, the government should also have made arrangements to compensate the revenue from these institutions.

"No steps are being taken to increase employment and reduce inflation," he commented.
