Disputes between Trinamool Congress, rebel Suvendu Adhikari 'resolved amicably'

The breakthrough has been achieved after a meeting between Adhikari and the party's top leadership, informed veteran Trinamool Lok Sabha MP Saugata Roy in north Kolkata on Monday evening.

"All disputes have been resolved amicably," Roy told IBNS.

Apart from Roy, Trinamool MPs Sudip Bandyopadhyay, Abhishek Banerjee and political strategist Prashant Kishor were present.

Adhikari, who has been holding independent rallies devoid of any Trinamool flag or portrait of his supremo Mamata Banerjee for several weeks, resigned as the West Bengal Transport Minister last Friday, triggering a massive speculation over his political position. 

The 49-year old politician, an MLA from Nandigram Assembly constituency, had also surrendered the Z category security accorded to him.

Adhikari, who has been instrumental in the 2007-2008 Nandigram movement which led the Trinamool to oust the 34-year old Left Front government, had made a veiled attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek Banerjee, who is often referred to as the number two in the party.

"I haven't reached this position by parachute or elevator. I have reached this point by climbing the stairs," Adhikari had said indirectly referring to Abhishek.  

Abhishek last Sunday countered Adhikari unsparingly saying, "No one has been launched by a parachute or has been lifted to a position in the Trinamool."

"I would have contested from South Kolkata in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections if I had been launched by a parachute. My home is in South Kolkata. But I was given the Diamond Harbour seat by the party," said the young parliamentarian and a key Trinamool leader.
