Delhi factory fire kills 43, Arvind Kejriwal rushes to spot
New Delhi/IBNS: At least 43 people were killed as a massive fire broke out at a luggage factory in a crowded area of the national capital on Sunday, media reports said.
The fire broke out around 5 AM at the factory in Anaj Mandi on Rani Jhansi Road.
Majority of the dead are labourers who were sleeping inside the factory.
It is believed that around 50 people were inside the factory.
The cause of the fire is still not known.
The fire is suspected to have started at the workshop of the factory.
To take control of the situation, thirty fire trucks have been pressed into action.
According to reports, twenty people were taken to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and Hindu Rao Hospital.
As a result of the incident, Rani Jhansi flyover near New Delhi railway station has been shut to the traffic.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the incident and tweeted: "The fire in Delhi’s Anaj Mandi on Rani Jhansi Road is extremely horrific. My thoughts are with those who lost their loved ones. Wishing the injured a quick recovery. Authorities are providing all possible assistance at the site of the tragedy."

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also expressed grief over the incident.

Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal rushed to the spot and also announced compensations for the victims' families.
"It is a very sad incident. I have ordered a magisterial inquiry into it. Compensation of Rs 10 lakhs each will be given to families of those dead and Rs 1 lakh each to those injured. The expense of medical treatment of those injured to be borne by the government," he told mediapersons.
National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel have also reached the area to aid in rescue operations.
