COVID-19: West Bengal makes RT-PCR test mandatory for air passengers arriving from Maharashtra, Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana

Kolkata/IBNS: In the wake of rising Covid-19 cases in some parts of the country, the West Bengal government has reportedly made the RT-PCR test mandatory for air passengers arriving from four states, including Maharashtra, Kerala, Karnataka, and Telangana, from 12 pm. on Feb 27 (Saturday).

In a letter to the Ministry of Civil Aviation Secretary P.S. Kharola, West Bengal Home Secretary H.K. Dwivedi has clarified that all passengers coming by air from those four states have to carry a Covid negative RT-PCR report to enter the state.

"In view of the increasing trend of Covid cases in the states of Maharashtra, Kerala, Karnataka, and Telangana, and in continuation of 385/HS/PA/20 dated August 26, 2020, this is to inform you that the state government has decided that from 12 noon of February 27, 2021, all passengers coming to West Bengal from the aforesaid four states shall mandatorily carry a covid negative RT-PCR report for such test conducted within 72 hours of the flight departure," the letter dated February 24, 2021 (Wednesday) read.

Besides West Bengal, several other Indian states, including Delhi, Maharastra, and Karnataka, have already made Covid negative RT-PCR test report mandatory for travellers coming by air from some certain states with a rising number of coronavirus cases.
