COVID-19 cases in Assam double in six days, state tally now rises to 157

Guwahati/IBNS: The surge in COVID-19 positive cases in Assam in the last six days continued unabated as 78 infections have been detected in the state within the period.

In the last 24 hours, 14 new positive cases for COVID-19 have been found in the state's Sarusajai Quarantine Centre taking the state tally to 185.

The number of cases in Assam has doubled in 6 days

The first case of the contagion was detected in the state on March 31 and the case was found at Silchar Medical College Hospital (SMCH).

Assam Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that maximum cases had travel history and the patients had returned to the state from outside of the state.

On the other hand, during the period four patients died due to the pandemic and 48 others were discharged from hospitals.

The state has now 130 active positive cases.
