Couple held in Gujarat for throwing newborn son in bush
Surat/UNI: A couple was arrested in Gujarat for throwing away their newborn son, in the want of a daughter.
According to Surat police, Mangu Vanzara and his wife Ganga already have three sons and they had taken another chance, anticipating a baby girl this time.
However, when they learnt that they were blessed with another boy, they were very disappointed.
In a fit of rage, they left their one-day-old child in a bush on the banks of Tapi river at Singanpur under Katargam police station area, here.
The baby was found by two youth in a critical condition on Dec 6. They admitted him to a hospital, where the doctors managed to save the infant.
The couple told the police that since they already had three sons and wanted a daughter this time around, they left their newborn child in a bush by the river.
Police arrested the couple for attempted infanticide.
