Coronavirus Outbreak: Narendra Modi to address nation tonight

New Delhi/IBNS: Amid ongoing Covid 19 outbreak in the country, Indian PM Narendra Modi will address the nation at 8 pm on Tuesday.

Modi said he will speak on vital aspects related to the COVID 19 menace.

"Will address the nation at 8 PM today, 24th March 2020, on vital aspects relating to the menace of COVID-19," he tweeted.

Modi had last addressed the nation on Thursday.

During his speech, he had urged people to follow Janata Curfew (people's lockdown) on Sunday.

Meanwhile, as many as thirty states and Union territories declared a lockdown by late evening on Monday as number of COVID 19 cases in India is nearing 500.

With two more deaths registered, the number of deaths in India due to cornavirus touched nine on Monday.

The two deaths were recorded from Kolkata and Himachal Pradesh.

In a bid to restrict the surge of COVID 19 in the country, the Indian government on Monday announced all domestic flights will stop operating in the country from Tuesday midnight.

It is yet another step taken by the government to check Coronavirus outbreak in the nation.

Cargo flights will remain operational, officials said.

"Domestic schedule commercial airlines shall cease operations from the mid night 23.59 IST hours on 24/3/2020. Restrictions shall not apply to solely cargo carrying flights," Indian government said in a tweet via Press Information Bureau page.

"Airlines have to plan operations so as to land at their destination before 2359 hours on 24/3/2020," read the statement.

Covid-19 Heads-Up: 

To stop the spread of the pandemic, India has placed its major cities and about 75 districts under a stringent lockdown amid cases of coronavirus emerging and claiming lives.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whose appeal saw a successful "Janata Curfew" (people's lockdown) on Sunday, has urged people to take the lockdown seriously after many were found flouting the rules.

According to worldometers.info, India has till Tuesday morning 511 positive cases with 10 lives lost to the virus (Indian official toll is 9 so far).  

There are 381,760 coronavirus cases worldwide with 16,558 people succumbing to the virus, according to worldometers.info. A total of 102,429. people have recovered.
