Cop killed in CAA clashes, CM Arvind Kejriwal expresses grief
New Delhi/UNI: A police personnel died as clashes erupt between two groups over Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in Maujpur in Delhi.
According to police, head constable Ratan Lal posted in the ACP Gokalpuri office was killed during the clashes in the North East Delhi.
Expressing grief over the incident, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, "The death of the police head constable is very sad. He was also one of us. Please renounce violence. Nobody benefits from this. All problems will be solved by peace."
For the second consecutive day, clashes broke out in Maujpur area in the national capital as pro and anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protesters pelted stones at each other.
A large number of police have been deployed in the area.
Taking to twitter Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal said, "Instructed @DelhiPolice and @CPDelhi to ensure that law and order is maintained in North East Delhi. The situation is being closely monitored. I urge everyone to exercise restraint for maintenance of peace and harmony."
"We are deeply disturbed by the news of the death of @DelhiPolice constable late Ratan Lal today. We stand in solidarity against any violence and hate, and our prayers are with the family," Shaheen Bagh official twitter handle said.
Delhi Police is making every effort to restore normalcy. Sec. 144 has been imposed in the affected areas of North East district and strict action will be taken against miscreants and anti social elements.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police said Section 144 has been imposed in the affected areas of North East district.
Some incidents of violence and arson have been reported in the areas of North East District, particularly in the areas of Maujpur, Kardampuri, Chand Bagh and Dayalpur. It is appealed to the people of Delhi and particularly to the North East District to maintain peace and harmony.
