Guwahati/IBNS: The Congress party on Wednesday staged protests and agitations in Guwahati against the anti-people policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Union government, economic slowdown in the country, price hike of essential commodities.

Several hundreds of Congress workers staged protests in front of the regional office of the Reserve Bank of India, Guwahati.

Senior Congress leaders Jairam Ramesh, Harish Rawat, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Ripun Bora and many other leaders of the party took part in the protest.

The protesters shouted slogans against Prime Minister Modi, BJP and the Union government.

Tight security arrangements have been made in Guwahati for the protest.

Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president and Rajya Sabha MP Ripun Bora said that, the country’s economy has been destroyed only because of the Modi government’s wrong policies.

“The Modi government has taken huge money deposited in the RBI. This government has sold the public properties to the private companies. In Assam, two paper mills have been shut down and they also sold Numaligarh Refinary Limited. They are now going to sell the country. Over 40 lakh employees are now unemployed. Essential commodities price now hiking day by day. The Congress party has launched nationwide protests against the anti-people policies taken by the Modi government,” Ripun Bora said.

Later, police had detained the protesters.
