Cindy Singh, America's 4th most wanted criminal on FBI list, arrested in India

Washington, DC: The United States’ top probe agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), has arrested Cindy Rodriguez Singh, the fourth of the country’s top 10 fugitives, from India, the agency’s director, Kash Patel, said Thursday.

Singh, 40, was wanted for the 2022 murder of her six-year-old son, Noel Rodriguez-Alvarez.

Announcing her arrest, FBI director Kash Patel, in a post on X, said, “Singh is wanted on state charges of killing her six-year-old son. She will face charges of Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution and Capital Murder of a person under 10 years of age.”

In March 2023, authorities in Everman, Texas, launched a welfare check for Singh’s child, missing since October 2022. Singh allegedly misled them, claiming the child had been in Mexico with his biological father since November 2022.

She allegedly fled the US on March 22, 2023, with her six children and her Indian origin husband, Arshdeep Singh, to India. Noel was not on the flight.

Noel was suffering from chronic lung disease and required oxygen support. Singh allegedly abused him, deprived him of food and water. She even hit him with keys on one instance when he tried to drink water.

Witnesses also said that she told someone that she had ‘sold’ him.

Singh believed he was ‘evil’ and likely ‘possessed’ and was afraid that he would harm her newborn twins, witnesses told the investigators.

Fox News reported, citing officials, that she was arrested in India in a joint operation with Indian authorities and INTERPOL.

She has been brought back to the US and will be handed over to the Texas authorities, it added.

According to reports, the FBI put her in fourth position on its ‘Ten Most Wanted Fugitives’ list with a $250,000 reward for information leading to her arrest.

The list includes over 500 most notorious criminals in US history, and Singh is the first mother accused of killing her own child.

Following the probe, Singh was charged with capital murder in Tarrant County, Texas, on October 31, 2023, and a warrant for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution was issued days later.

Announcing the arrest, the White House said in a statement on X: "CAPTURED: The 4th '10 Most Wanted' fugitive has been arrested in the last 7 months, thanks to the Trump Admin. Cindy Singh will face charges of Unlawful Flight To Avoid Prosecution and Capital Murder. Let this be a warning to all CRIMINALS: You will be captured and CHARGED."
