New Delhi/IBNS: The VIP Security Section under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has allotted 'Z' category CRPF security cover along with an armoured vehicle to former TMC minister Suvendu Adhikari, a day before the senior leader is likely to join the BJP at Amit Shah's Medinipur rally, reports said.

"The security arrangement for Suvendu Adhikari has been examined in this Ministry in consultation with Central security agencies and it has been decided to provide 'Z' category CRPF security cover with BR (Ballistics Rating) vehicle in West Bengal and 'Y+' category CRPF security cover in other states," an MHA order read.

Days ago, rebel Suvendu Adhikari resigned from all positions he used to hold as well as quit the Trinamool Congress party, and gave up the state provided security cover.

The development occured at a time when the state is gearing up for the Assembly polls scheduled to take place next year.

The Bharatiya Janata Party and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress are engaged in a tough battle to gain seats in the state.
