New Delhi/IBNS: Clashes between pro and anti-Citizenship Amendment Act or CAA protesters occurred in New Delhi's Maujpur area on Sunday.

Some protesters even resorted to stone pelting in the area, media reports said.

TV footage showed protesters throwing stones at each other.

The police resorted to tear gas shells to bring the situation under control.

Meanwhile, the venue is located close to Jaffarabad area where an anti-CAA protest is currently going on since last night.

An eyewitness told The Quint that protesters who were present under the Maujpur metro station were attacked by an alleged pro-CAA group.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation announced that the entry and exit gates of Maujpur-Babarpur have been closed.

Earlier, DMRC had said that the entry and exit gates of Jaffrabad were also shut.

The Indian government passed a new citizenship law last year.

Protests against the law have taken place in different parts of the country for the past several of months.

New Delhi has witnessed several protests.
