Mumbai/Patna, May 31 (IBNS): Creating fresh trouble for the saffron outfit in Maharashtra, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has overtaken the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Bhandara-Gondiya Lok Sabha seat, which went to by-polls on Monday, while the party is trailing in its stronghold Uttar Pradesh as well in both the Lok Sabha and Assembly seats.

Earlier the BJP was leading in Bhandara-Gondiya seat. The BJP is still leading in Palghar parliamentary constituency of Maharashtra.

The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has overtaken Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal (United) in Bihar's Jokihat Assembly seat.

In a setback to the saffron outfit, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is trailing in Uttar Pradesh's Kairana Lok Sabha and Noorpur Assembly seats.

Both the seats were held by the BJP earlier and the elections are also seen as a test of Opposition unity against the saffron party in the run up to 2019 polls. .

While the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) is leading in Kairana Lok Sabha seat, former UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party (SP) has taken a lead in the Noorpur Assembly seat.

By-polls were necessitated in Kairana owing to the death of candidate Mriganka Singh's father, BJP MP Hukum Singh, in February. The death of a BJP legislator also necessitated a bypoll in Noorpur Assembly seat.

In Kerala, the CPI-M is leading in Chengannur Assembly seat.

Continuing its dominance in West Bengal, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is on the verge of sweeping the Maheshtala Assembly constituency.

The Congress is leading in Karnataka's RR Nagar and Meghalaya's Ampati Assembly seats.
