BJP welcomes Gujarat High Court's decision over Rahul Gandhi's defamation case

New Delhi/UNI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday welcomed the Gujarat High Court's decision to reject Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's plea to stay his conviction in a defamation case and said the remark made by Rahul Gandhi against PM Modi's surname is "grossly objectionable".

The Congress leader is facing ten defamation cases for his comments against leaders and organisations, and if he acts like this, this law will catch up with him," said BJP National Spokesperson Ravi Shankar here in a press conference.

Accusing him of being a habitual offender, Ravi Shankar Prasad says it has become a chronic habit of Gandhi to abuse and defame, and he insulted the OBC community with his remarks.

Prasad's remarks came after the Gujarat High Court on Friday dismissed Rahul Gandhi's plea seeking a stay on his conviction in a criminal defamation case over his Modi surname remark.

"The court says that this conviction is proper and legal," he added.

The BJP leader said Rahul Gandhi had made a comment in the 2019 election that "why all thieves have Modi as their surname"...adding that most of the backward and extremely backward people have Modi surnames across the country and this was a grossly objectionable comment.

"I want to ask Congress why it can't control Rahul Gandhi? ...why can't it train him to speak right?" said Ravi Shankar.

The spokesperson said, "When given a chance by the trial court in Surat to apologise, Rahul Gandhi rather chose to remark, 'I am not Savarkar that I will apologise." This truly shows the extent of hatred Rahul has against a great patriot of the country".
