BJP WB HQ attack: Kolkata Police lodge FIR against BJP, TMC

Kolkata, Jan 4 (IBNS): A day after BJP's West Bengal headquarter in north Kolkata was allegedly attacked by TMC activists, the Kolkata Police on Wednesday lodged an FIR on suo motto basis against both the BJP and TMC, officials said.

According to reports, the FIR has been lodged at Jorasanko Police Station under IPC sections 147 (Rioting), 148 (Rioting, armed with deadly weapon) and 149 (Every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object).

Earlier on Tuesday evening, thousands of TMC activists attacked BJP headquarter at Central Avenue area, following the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested TMC LS MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay in connection with Rose Valley financial scam.

At least 17 BJP protesters were injured and several cars, parked there, were vandalized due to the sudden attack.

BJP leaders claimed that Kolkata Police did not take any step to control the attacking mob, who were pelting stones desperately aiming at the party office here.

Later, an unit of CRPF was deployed to the scene to save the party office from TMC attackers.

Meanwhile, alleging that Centre deployed CRPF without informing the state, a Trinamool delegation met West Bengal governor Keshari Nath Tripathi on Wednesday.

Till the last update came in, police have arrested none, involved in the Tuesday's BJP headquarter attack.
