Bengaluru/UNI: Two persons died and three others, including a partner of a firm, were injured in a major cylinder blast at a food factory here on Monday.

"About 1.30 this afternoon, there was a blast at the MM Food Products which was manufacturing snacks and other related food items. Two women and three men have been injured, and two others have died," DCP West Sanjeev Patil told reporters.

The deceased have been identified as Manish and Saurav, both aged 22 to 21 years, respectively and were residents of Bihar, he said.

Three injured are Dhanalaxmi, aged 52, Shanti (40) and Sachin, who is the firm's partner, have been injured. Of the three, the women are grievously injured, Patil said. "Both women have been shifted to the Victoria hospital," he added.

The preliminary findings of the Fire and Emergency Service officials pointed to the blast taking place in one of the boilers used at an unit, Patil said. The fire department has controlled the fire and cooled down the equipment at the unit, he added.

Replying to a query, Patil said the police will speak to the concerned departments to find out whether the firm has license to operate boilers as per rules.
