Ayodhya title suit: Ram chabutra is not birthplace of Lord Ram, Muslim side asserts in court
New Delhi, Sep 25 (UNI) Sunni Waqf Board does not accept that Ram chabutra is the birthplace of Lord Ram, the Muslim side on Wednesday told the Supreme Court's five-judge Constitution bench, headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi.
"Sunni Waqf Board does not accept that Ram chabutra is birth place of Ram," Zafaryab Jilani, counsel for Muslim respondents affirmed before the bench hearing a batch of appeals against the September 2010 Allahabad High Court trifurcation of the 2.77 acres disputed site.
"Our stance is that it is their belief and we are not taking any steps in that regard after an observation to that effect by a District Judge," Mr Jilani submitted.
Sunni Waqf Board stance is Lord Ram was born in Ayodhya but exact spot is not the disputed site, Jilani told the apex court.
He said Sunni Waqf Board also clarifies that it does not accept Ram Chabutra as the birth spot though Hindus believe it.
Meenakshi Arora, another lawyer for Muslim side, told the Supreme Court that the 356-year-old status quo needs to be maintained as said by a judge.
The District Judge felt that its too late to decide on the title and it would be not good to allow the dispute but rather allow the status quo to prevail, she said.
The hearing is in progress before the five-judge Constitution bench of the Apex Court.
