Assam decides to provide scooties to 22,000 girl students

Guwahati/IBNS: The Assam government has decided to give scooties to 22,000 girl students who passed the higher secondary final examinations (Class 12) with first division marks.

Assam Education minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the state government will provide scooties to 22,000 girl students who passed the higher secondary final examinations by securing over 60 percent marks.

Addressing a press conference held in Guwahati on Tuesday, Himanta Biswa Sarma said that it is a budget announcement and the state government is now going to implement the budget announcement.

"We will provide the scooties to 22,000 girl students by October 15 this year. The cost of each scooty is estimated Rs 50,000-55,000," Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

He further said that those students who want electric scooty, they can apply for it on sebaonline.org website.

"The students will not be able to sell the scooties for at least three years and they will have to bear the registration cost,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

The minister also said that the state government has urged all colleges of the state to increase its seats by 25 percent this year and these seats will be reserved for only the students who passed Class 12 examinations under the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC).
