Assam court convicts three with life imprisonment in a 10-year-old murder case

Guwahati, Aug 17 (IBNS): A local court in Assam’s Hojai district on Friday convicted three persons with life imprisonment in connection with a 10-year-old murder case.

The Court of the Additional District and Sessions Judge of Hojai district convicted Habijur Rahman, Saidur Rahman and Sahidur Rahman under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The court also slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 each to the three convicts.

One Habibur Rahman of Kaki in Lanka was killed at his residence by nine persons following a land dispute in 2009.

Public prosecutor Amarjyoti Saikia said that, the victim Habijur Rahman was killed by his own brothers following a land dispute on May 20, 2009. The court had convicted three persons with life imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 to each in the case of Kaki police station (case no 32/09).

The court acquitted five persons due to lack of evidence and the prime accused was killed six months back.
