Guwahati/IBNS: Assam Congress on Monday staged protest against the BJP-led union government’s move to remove Special Protection Group (SPG) protection of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi.

The workers and supporters of Assam Pradesh Congress came out on the streets of Guwahati and protested against the Modi-government’s move.

The Congress workers have also gheraoed the Raj Bhawan in Guwahati and sent memorandum to the President of India through the Assam governor.

The protesters shouted slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home minister Amit Shah and the BJP and demanded to restore the SPG protection to the Congress leaders.

Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president and Rajya Sabha MP Ripun Bora said that – “The Modi government has withdrawn the SPG protection from former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and later the protection removed from Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi. It is undemocratic, political vendata, cruelty. We the Congress party has protested it and demanded to restore the SPG protection immediately.”
