Dispur/IBNS: The class 10 and 12 examinations in Assam may get cancelled following the cabinet recommendations owing to COVID-19 pandemic.

The Assam cabinet on Wednesday recommended that it would be not possible to conduct the examinations in the state in view of the prevailing positivity rate of COVID-19.

Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said that the state Health department has advised the government not to hold the examinations and the entire issue was discussed during the cabinet meeting chaired by Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Pegu said, "During the cabinet meeting the state Health department had given a presentation about the current COVID-19 situation in the state. According to the Health department, 25000 students aged between 11 years to 18 years have been infected by COVID-19 across the state in May and June and it is 10 percent of the total students of 11-18 years age category."

"The Health department said that it is not permissible to hold the examinations," he added.

The Assam Education Minister further said that the final decision will be taken in this regard on Jun 18 at a meeting between the Education department and various other stakeholders.
