Angela Merkel visits India: Germany-India signs 17 MoUs and pacts

New Delhi/UNI/IBNS: India and Germany on Friday inked as many as 17 MoUs and pacts, including on sectors such as higher education, football, vocational training maritime technology.

The MoUs were inked in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and visiting German Chancellor Angela Merkel after both the leaders co-chaired the fifth meeting of India-German Inter-Governmental Consultations.

The agreements among other things included a MoU on the Extension of Indo-German Partnership in Higher Education.

There were also agreements signed regarding cooperation between the National Museum, the National Gallery of Modern Art, the Indian Museum Kolkataa and the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation and the Stiftung Humboldt Forum in Berliner Schloss.

Both sides also inked MoU between All India Football Federation and German football association.

There was also signing of a Statement of Intent on the key elements of the Indo-German Migration and Mobility Partnership Agreement.

External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar and his German counterpart Heiko Maas signed a Joint Declaration of Intent on Consultations for the period 2020-2024 between two sides.

Among others, there was also a Joint Declaration of Intent for cooperation on Strategic Projects on Ministry of Railways and Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.

This was signed by Vinod Kumar Yadav, Chairman, Railway Board and Christian Hirte, Parliamentary State Secretary, Ministry of Economic Affairs & Energy in Germany, the MEA said.

Other pacts related to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and also one for Joint Cooperation in Research & Development on Artificial Intelligence, MEA sources said.

There was also MoU for Cooperation in Inland, Coastal and Maritime Technology and another

on Establishment of an Academic Collaboration in Ayurveda, Yoga and Meditation.

MoU was also inked between National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management MANAGE and the German Agricultural Academy DEULA in the city of Nienburg on collaboration in agricultural technical and professional training.
