Amit Shah speaks to Chief Ministers of Assam and Bihar over concerns of rising of rising water levels of Brahmaputra and Mahananda
New Delhi/IBNS: Home Minister Amit Shah has spoken to chief ministers of Bihar and Assam over rising levels of Mahananda and Brahmaputra river waters in their respective states and assured them of all help for the protection of the people.
"I had a conversation with Chief Minister Shri @nitishkumar ji about the rising water level of Mahananda River in Bihar and assured him of all possible help from the Centre to ensure the safety of the people of Bihar," Mr Shah tweeted in Hindi.
“Spoke to Assam Chief Minister Shri @sarbanandsonwal and Shri @himantabiswa to take stock of the alarming situation in Brahmaputra river and landslides near Guwahati. All possible help has been assured to the State. The Modi government stands firmly with the people of Assam,” he informed in another tweet.
Parts of the Brahmaputra river in Assam have been flowing above the danger mark due to the heavy rainfall in the region. Apart from Brahmaputra, Dikhow, Dhansiri, Jia Bharali, Puthimari and Beki rivers are also flowing above the danger level.
Similar situation has also arisen in Bihar as due to unrelenting rain, there has been a consistent rise in the water level of Mahananda river. This could pose flood threat to districts falling under its domain if a similar trend continues.
Mahananda is one of the prime tributaries of the Ganga river in the eastern part of India. It originates from the hills of Darjeeling flows through Kishanganj, Purnia and Katihar districts in Bihar.
