Kolkata/New Delhi/IBNS: Congress MP from Bengal's Berhampore Lok Sabha constituency, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, has been appointed as the President of West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee (WBPCC).

Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, who is also the leader of Congress party in the lower house (Lok Sabha), is succeeding Somen Mitra, who passed away in July, as the Bengal Congress chief.

"Hon'ble Congress President has appointed Shri Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury as the President of West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee with immediate effect," an INC press release read.

Earlier in 2014, Chowdhury had been appointed as the WBPCC chief and he was in the chair till September, 2018, and then the senior Congressman was replaced by Somen Mitra as the state president.
