Government denounces fringe Taj Mahal theory

| | Dec 01, 2015, at 05:24 pm
New Delhi, Dec 1 (IBNS) Putting an end to the controversy, the central government finally spoke about the ongoing Taj Mahal debate, negating all claims that the mausoleum was a Shiva Temple and stated that there was lack of evidence, reports said.

Union Culture and Tourism Minister, Mahesh Sharma told the Rajyasabha that the claims were indeed feeble as the government failed to find anything concrete to act upon.

This comes days after a group of lawyers from Agra filed a petition that the age-old heritage building was actually a Shiva Temple, as opposed to prevalent beliefs and hence should be handed to the Hindus and should bar Muslims from offering prayers at the location.

Earlier, a similar claim was also dismissed by the Archaeological Survey of India, who stated that the Taj Mahal was indeed built by Shah Jahan and is a fine example of Mughal art.
