Calcutta University to confer D.Litt to Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee

Kolkata, Oct 25 (IBNS): The Calcutta University (CU) on Wednesday announced that it will confer West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee with its prestigious D.Litt (Doctor of Letters) degree.

According to reports, during a meeting of university's Senate-Syndicate on Wednesday, it was decided that the honorary D.Litt degree will be presented to Mamata Banerjee.

"During Calcutta University's programme in Kolkata's Nazrul Mancha on January 11 in 2018, Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will be conferred with D.Litt degree for her contribution towards Arts, Literature and Social Services," Vice-Chancellor of CU, Sonali Chakraborty Banerjee, told IBNS.

Sources confirmed that Mamata Banerjee has agreed to accept the honorary degree and to present dialect speech on Jan 11.

Mamata Banerjee is the first Chief Minister of West Bengal to be honoured with D.Litt degree by Calcutta University during governance.
