Annual Regional Convention of IIPA held in Guwahati

| | Sep 28, 2014, at 01:25 am
Guwahati, Sept 27 (IBNS) : The Annual Regional Convention of the Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA) Assam Regional Branch was organized on Saturday at the Conference Hall of Hotel Brahmaputra Ashok in Assam's Guwahati city.

The keynote address of the convention was delivered on the topic ‘Contemporary trends in Centre-state relations in India where are the states’ by eminent academician and Dean (Academic) of K.K. Handiqui State Open University Arupjyoti Choudhury.

Assuming a hypothesis that the Indian federal polity is moving towards a Unitarian domain, Choudhury dwelt on the polarization of power in India due to the emergence of coalition governments.

He stated that though the country had attained independence from foreign rule way back in 1947 yet due to the lesser amount of financial resources being made available to the north-east, the region still lacks the arrival of post-colonial developments to the extent to which it should have been.

The proper functioning of a federal state is only possible when the centre considers itself to be in the same line with its constituent states, he added.

The convention was attended by a host of people from academic and legal backgrounds among others.
